In COR, we have the option to mark clients as “Non billable” and “Billable”, to differentiate between internal clients, where we do our own projects, and external clients, for whom we work.
In the Billable clients, we will have the option to mark the projects as “Billable”, if they will have income, or as “Non billable” if we are working with internal things that we do not charge to our client.
Billable and Non-Billable Clients
To mark a client as Billable or Non-Billable, we can do it only at the moment of creation.
You will find all the steps to create a new customer in: How to register a Customer in COR
In the process of creating a customer, we will have the “Billable Customer” switch at the top. By activating it, we classify the customer as external, which will allow us to then create projects that are also Billable.
On the contrary, by deactivating it, we indicate that it is an internal customer, in which we will have only non-billable projects.
When creating a new client and marking it as “Non Billable”, a warning message will appear, since we will not be able to edit it later.
This means that, later on, we will not be able to change it to “Billable”, which will not allow us to create billable projects associated to that client.
To finish with the creation, we must click on “Confirm”.
Billable and Non-BillableProjects
When creating / editing a project, we have the option to mark it as Billable or Non-Billable from the “Profitability” tab:
The “Billable” switch will be off by default; when clicked, it will be activated and will be in billable status. When creating a project, you can choose whether it will be billable or not, allowing you to record hours that are not billable, even if the client is billable.
Editing Projects
Projects that are initially classified as non-billable have the flexibility to be converted to billable at any time. This conversion is especially useful, as previously recorded hours will remain as non-billable, ensuring clear differentiation in the project history.
If a project that was “Non-Billable” is then changed to “Billable”, all newly recorded hours will be counted as billable.
It is important to note that after marking a project as Billable, if hours are charged to it, it is not possible to change it later as “Non Billable”, since those recorded hours are already marked as Billable in the client.
Only a project that has no associated hours can be updated to “Non Billable”.
